Google Fiber Works To Deliver 10Gbps Internet Connections

Google Fiber

Google now looks to deliver data transfer speeds over the internet at an astounding 10 gigabits per second. That’s 10 times faster than the current 1 gigabit Google Fiber connections in Provo, Kansas City, and Austin. The news broke via a USA Today report, revealing that a Google executive first spoke about the new plans. The 10 Gbps speed is roughly 1,000 times faster than the average US connection speed of 7.2 megabits per second.

Google CFO Chief Patrick Pichette said the following about the technology during the Goldman Sachs Tech and Internet conference:

“That’s where the world is going. It’s going to happen,” Pichette said. It may happen over a decade, but “why wouldn’t we make it available in three years? That’s what we’re working on. There’s no need to wait,”

With upcoming 4K video expanding slowly into the market, faster connections will be required to upload and download the data.
